How Open Dye Hours Work

Slowly refresh your wardrobe and household items with hand-crafted natural dyes. Open studio dye hours allow you to dye at your own pace at my studio without turning your own kitchen into a dye studio.

Every month I will feature two complimentary tannin-rich dyes that allow visitors to experiment and play with dyeing their own items at their own pace.

We will dye in my garden, socialize, and enjoy tea.

I hope open dye hours provide the perfect opportunity for you to dye the stuff you’ve been wanting to dye for a long time but just won’t ever get around to dyeing yourself at home. The extra tank top, the small ball of yarn, the tea towel, or that piece of cotton fabric for your next quilting project.

My art studio will be open for touring at the same time and you’re welcome to browse and purchase art and scarves as well.

NOTE: This is not a workshop or a class. I will help you, but not teach you beyond answering basic questions.

Materials Provided

  • Two hand-crafted dyes with built-in mordants.

  • Twine, rubber bands, clothes pins, and other essentials for creating prints.

  • Tongs and towels

  • Mordants and modifiers

  • Tea, water, and nice vibes :)

Guidelines

  • Visitors may bring their own items to dye, up to 1 lbs per each person. If you’re unsure of the weight of your items, we can weigh them onsite. Items that weigh over 1 lbs might still be dyeable with certain techniques, and I’m happy to consult. There may be dye leftover to dye additional items.

  • All dyeable items must be made of NATURAL FIBERS such as cotton, linen, silk, wool, or rayon.

Liability

  • All visitors will need to sign a liability waiver.

  • All participants must be over 18-years-old.

My studio address will be emailed out to those who register.
