STUDIO VISITS

I work out of a 70-year-old building renovated into a natural dye studio in the heart of the Dodge-Flower neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona.I welcome visitors to my studio by appointment, for classes, or open dye studios. If you’d like to set up a time to view my work, you may contact me here.

On a residential property, the studio has evolved from life as a garage used for welding to a delightful two-room space that we specially equipped for running a small dye practice and creating art. Always evolving, the studio features a built-in cooktop, a huge work table, ample space for spreading out projects, and lots of room to store lovingly harvested dye plants and finished works.

We began building out the garage in the spring of 2022. The first item I purchased for the space was the stove-top to cook my dyes. Up until then, I’d used hotplates or sometimes my own kitchen to make dye, so creating a dedicated space to develop dyes felt like a massive upgrade in my work. The garage was dry-walled and the friend helping me with renovations created a large glass window from a door turned on its side.

In January, 2023, I painted the second room. Formerly grey brick with boarded-up windows, painting and adding another glass door that matched the large window helped brighten and humanize the space.

Since then, the studio continues to evolve as my needs and budget allows. I appreciate how this once-garage now provides the backdrop for my creative world to develop and flourish. I hope to welcome you, for a class or a tour.
