COLLAGE ILLUSTRATIONS | NATURAL DYEING

My name is Elana and I’m visual artist and natural dyer based in Tucson, Arizona. I make illustrative collages with paper that I color with plants and insects, using tiny scissors and tweezers to piece my work together. My collages reflect my internal world and I often depict figures, mountains, deserts, and animals as a backdrop to explore concepts most central to me. I basically grew up in an old-school commercial art studio and I make my work with transparent physical layers like it’s 1986. I also dye silk scarves and do commissioned collages of concepts nearest to the hearts of my clients. And yes, Bloom is my real last name.

Still life of a human heart on a plate next a fork, a vase of orchids, and an eye coming through a partially curtained window.

Swimming Through My Life is a tiny illustration made while chatting with the friend I rent a studio from. I frequently feature fish in my work to explore never quite feeling human in a human world. The fish feels playful, confused, uncomfortable, and curious all at once, but accepts it and drifts through the beauty of her space.

COLOR NOTES

Slight differences in color between the original image and the photo of the print may show on certain screens. Colors can shift in photos based on the light in the room. The full image of the art is the same image I used to make the print and is the best representation of the colors in the printed work.

Framed prints ship with foam over the acrylic glass and encased in cardboard for protection.

All unframed small prints ship in an recycled plastic sleeve with a backer and in a rigid card-board mailer.

Most prints ship within 1-2 days. Please allow up to 2 weeks for shipping based on fluctuating inventory. I will contact you personally if I suspect any delays.

CARE

Even archival prints on high-quality paper are sensitive to sunlight. Hang your print in a location out of direct sunlight behind UV protected glass/acrylic to enjoy it for years to come.

Zelda Scarf | Naturally Dyed Silk
from $82.00

A naturally dyed silk scarf for one’s neck. I dye each silk scarf using a variety of natural materials such as plants, and sometimes insects. Many of the plants I forage, some I buy, and others come from collecting kitchen scraps.

  • Size: 21×21 inches

  • Material: 100% silk

  • Color Profile: Peach, rose, violet, and magenta

ABOUT SCARF PEARLS

Each pearl begins as a wooden bead that I either hand-dye or paint (or both!). I seal each pearl with a water-proof acrylic varnish.

CARE

Always wash your scarf with a gentle pH neutral dish or laundry soap (please no Dr. Bronner’s). Hang your scarf to dry, and lightly iron. Store your scarf out of direct sunlight, preferably in a dark drawer.

ON NAMES

I named this batch of scarves after some of my favorite women of the 1920s: flappers, thinkers, and all-around cool women.
