

















Natural Pigments Workshop At The Historic YMCA - May 25 - Co-taught by Lindee Zimmer & Elana Bloom

Join artists Lindee Zimmer & Elana Bloom for an introduction to using natural pigments from minerals and plants as art supplies. In this three-hour intro course Lindee Zimmer will demonstrate how to make paints from mineral pigments and Elana Bloom will offer insight on how to make natural dyes for coloring fabric or making ink with kitchen scraps and plants in your environment. Participants will walk away with a bounty of information and recipes as well as their own paints and inks to take home for experimentation.
Anyone interested in exploring natural pigments for use in art making for the first time will gain wonderful insights from this class. Participants will have the opportunity to play and experiment with the materials made during class.
Material Covered
The use value of natural pigments found in plants and minerals for art supply making with historical notes and information.
Instruction on how to make paint from mineral pigments.
Instruction on how to make dye and ink from plants.
Participants Will Take Home
Recipes for how to make mineral-based paints and plant-based inks
Paint and inks made during class.
Housekeeping
This class will be taught outside during a very warm month in Tucson. We will provide pop-up tents for shade, but participants are encouraged to wear hats, sunscreen, and bring water bottles. Participants are welcome to bring notebooks for taking notes.
Please arrive 10 minutes early to find parking and settle into your spot.
A reminder email will be sent out prior to the class, on May 23rd with reminders about the address, parking, and these details.
Accessibility
The Historic Y has a first-come first served parking lot for about 20 cars (including one designated disabled accessible space) behind the building, accessed from Herbert Avenue. There are also 14 parking spaces around the building that are reserved for specific tenants typically during business hours. The courtyard is flat ground.
