Open Indigo Dyeing - September 20 | 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
The indigo vats are back for fall! Slowly refresh your wardrobe and household items with hand-crafted indigo vats. Indigo is a special dye made inside an oxygen-free environment called a “vat.” It’s what makes your jeans blue, and has a global history that stretches through Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
These purposefully low-cost open dye sessions allow participants to slowly refresh their wardrobes and household items with handcrafted natural dyes.
Stay the whole time or just come by, it’s up to you, but come ready to dye with two lovely variants of indigo: one made with dates and one made with iron oxide.
When
September 20, 2025, 4 p.m.- 7 p.m.
New Location
Due to new space constraints at my studio and the continued construction on Grant Road, I’m opening up my home garden for our dye sessions this fall. Located off Grant/Campbell, there is ample street parking on weekends.
My garden is a pretty magical place with a utility sink and clothes line for drying fiber. Tea and treats will of course be provided.
Participants will receive the address upon registering (it should automatically go to your inbox) but please reach out if you don’t receive and email within two days of registering.
About Open Dye Sessions
I make and provide beautiful natural dyes and you bring your own fiber to dye at your own pace.
Participants may bring up to 1 pound of fiber (a couple shirts or a few bandanas or some fabric).
If you’ve never dyed with indigo, I will run you through how to dip your fiber into the vat I will run you through the process of dyeing your stuff with indigo. You will then dye to your heart’s content and leave with beautiful blue pieces to love.
NOTE: This is not a structured workshop or a class. I will help you, but the structure will be loose and fun. It’s an opportunity to get to use the indigo vat and make friends :)
Participants Provide
Up to 1 pound of fiber per person (cloth, yarn, paper, wood, clothes, all welcome)
Your own dish gloves
Materials Provided
Indigo vats
Twine, rubber bands, clothes pins, plastic tubes, and other essentials for creating shibori prints.
Tongs and towels
Tea, water, music, treats, and nice vibes :)
Guidelines
To date, we have never run out of indigo for as much fiber as participants have brought in the past, but please be mindful of how much fiber you bring.
Visitors may bring their own items to dye, up to 1 lbs per each person. If the event doesn’t fill up, everyone can bring more fiber. If you’re unsure of the weight of your items, we can weigh them onsite. Items that weigh over 1 lbs might still be dyeable with certain techniques, and I’m happy to consult. There may be dye leftover to dye additional items.
All dyeable items must be made of NATURAL FIBERS such as cotton, linen, silk, wool.
Please wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting stained.
Bring water, a hat, and sunscreen :) There is a covered patio to helpful for escaping the heat, but it’s good be cautious.
Participants may come at any time during the dyeing session and leave when ready.
Sunset is 6:30 p.m., but there should be plenty of light to finish up projects before 7:00.

The garden is located above ground-level, requiring participants to step up 3 steps. Other arrangements may be made to access the garden through the garage, with 1 step up.
The ground is unevenly paved, please watch your step!
Cancelation Policy
Due to the nature of being a very small business, I’m not able to offer refunds on classes at this time. To avoid needing to cancel, please check your schedule ahead of signing up for a class. If a class is booked for an additional date, I’m happy to move a participant to the later date to accommodate for life’s unexpected challenges. If your schedule interferes with a class, please give me as much notice as possible so that I might fill your spot. Special considerations will be made on a case by case basis for true emergencies (ex. sudden hospitalization, family or pet emergencies, or natural or man-made disasters, etc).
Liability
All participants must be over 18-years-old.
Note on sales tax: Currently, my website platform (Squarespace) does not allow me to turn off sales tax for service-based products. If you have an Arizona zip code attached to your credit card, the site will automatically charge you sales tax.
